Child gives chase with police - and wins

A 13-year-old man behind the wheel of a car chased the police in downtown Neunkirchen (Saarland). A patrol car crew noticed the Golf shortly after midnight on Saturday morning because it drove over the curb in curves.

When the officers took up the chase, the boy accelerated the car at times to well over 100 kilometers per hour, the police said on Sunday.

Finally the black Golf turned into Eisenbahnstrasse, the boy obviously wanted to stop in a driveway. The police stopped too. But when they got out of their car, the boy unexpectedly reversed and accelerated again.

When reversing, the boy hit a garden wall with the car. He turned and drove between the parked patrol car and plant pots, which he also touched.

But the officers were able to remember the number plate. Based on the number plate, the police were able to identify the owner of the car: an uncle of the 13-year-old. The car was finally found not far from the common home address.

The boy is known to the police. Investigators said he had got behind the wheel of his father's car and driven it around several times in the past. Because he is not yet of criminal age at his age, the 13-year-old, who celebrated his birthday the day before the incident, cannot be prosecuted.
