Buschmann wants to remove Nazi terms from legal texts

Federal Minister of Justice Marco Buschmann is campaigning for the liberation of existing laws from the National Socialist era from Nazi language. "An examination by my house has shown that the remaining need for adjustment - especially with regard to Reich legal terms - affects ten laws and twelve statutory ordinances," says a letter from the FDP politician to several government departments, which the newspapers of the Essen Funke media group is available. These legal provisions should now be checked by the responsible departments for "any adjustment requirements" and, if necessary, corresponding "legal adjustment laws" should then be enacted.

According to information from the Funke newspapers, one of the laws to be examined is the law for non-medical practitioners that came into force in 1939, which mentions the "Reich Government" and "Reich Minister of the Interior". Other examples are the German Savings Banks and Giro Association Act of 1933 and the Ordinance on Public Casinos of 1939.

According to Buschmann, much has already been achieved in the past. "Particularly with the earlier law streamlining laws, Parliament comprehensively changed or repealed numerous pre-constitutional provisions that were still in force from the National Socialist era," stressed the Minister of Justice. The laws that have already been reformed would not, however, relieve the federal government "from the permanent task of checking the existing law to determine which provisions need to be adjusted".
