the Opposition in Cyprus is, to say the least rosenrasande since the country missed out on the trademark of the cypriot nationalosten halloumi in the Uk.

the Loss was begun by the british company John & Pascalis applied in court that the trademark would be invalidated or withdrawn. The government would then give their views on why the brand was important to preserve, but did not respond in time. The court therefore went on the John & Pascalis line.

Nicolas Papadopoulos, the leader of the opposition centre-party Diko, stamps the event as a monument to the incompetence that the government have shown in dealing with such an important matter as halloumiosten is for the cypriot economy. The communist party Akel demands that the minister be sacked, but the government rejects the claim.

Country halloumiexport is estimated at 80 million euros (the equivalent of 825 million) a year, 40 percent of it going to the Uk. Cyprus has applied to get back the trademark.
