Four women sentenced: Put down food and water for migrants along the border

Four female members of the organization No More Deaths has been convicted after they sought to help migrants by leaving food in the Arizona desert.

the Organization's purpose is to put an end to deaths among undocumented immigrants crossing the desert at the border between the UNITED states and Mexico.

According to the Independent is the border between Arizona and Mexico is particularly known for the high number of ligrester that are found each and every year.

One of the convicted women, Natalie Hoffman, was charged for without permission to have led a car into the national park, when she asked a big vanddunk and some cans of food in the desert.

The other three have been found guilty of staying in the area without permission and to leave personal belongings, writes Time.

the Verdict against the four women are, according to the Independent the first judgment against the humanitarian work that has fallen over the last ten years.

- No from the No More Deaths informed them that their actions could be prosecuted as a violation of the law, and none of the accused made any individual inquiries about the legality or the consequences of their action, says the judge Bernardo Verlasco.

The four women have in their defense explained that they acted from a sincere desire to help people in need.

The four women to six months imprisonment and a fine of 500 dollars. The judgment face criticism from Catherine Gaffney, who, as the four women also is a member of No More Deaths.

- This judgment does not challenge alone No More Deaths’ volunteers, but conscientious people all over the country. If it is illegal to give water to people who are about to die of thirst, how much humanity is left in the law of the country, she asks.
