Former head of the candidate associations Brayan Jimenez has been convicted of extortion and fraud in connection with the Fifa scandal in an american court.
Jimenez was on Tuesday sentenced to a prison term and a fine of 350,000 u.s. dollars amounting to almost 2.3 million kroner, after he had pleaded guilty in korruptionssagen.
He has already been serving parts of fængselsdommen and therefore should not be in jail in the future, but will the next two years be under the supervision of the authorities.
the Judgment also means that Jimenez is banned for life from having anything with professional football to do.
- There is no excuse and no justification for my actions. My actions have brought shame to world football, said Jimenez during the trial.
He was president of the Guatemalan football association from december 2009 to may 2015.
In november of the same year, he was charged with fraud, and in 2016, acknowledged Jimenez pleaded guilty in an american court of law to have received several hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes in exchange for media and marketingrettigheder to matches.
U.s. prosecutors have in total led cases against around 40 people in the big bestikkelsesskandale, which were revealed in 2015, in connection with the presidential election in Fifa.
