Half of all Eurowings flights in NRW are cancelled

At the two major airports in North Rhine-Westphalia, a good half of the airline's flights are canceled due to the nationwide strike by Eurowings pilots on Monday. More than 100 of the 205 planned take-offs and landings were canceled in Düsseldorf, and 45 out of 68 at Cologne/Bonn Airport, according to the airports.

However, there was no chaos at the airline's counters on Monday morning. Eurowings informed them early enough that the passengers concerned had therefore not come in the first place, said a spokesman for Düsseldorf Airport. Passengers were asked to find out about the status of their flight on the Eurowings website or via the Eurowings app.

The Cockpit Association (VC) had called on the Eurowings pilots to stop working. The reason is the insufficient offer from the employer side for the collective agreement. Early Monday morning, a VC spokesman said no further offer had been made. Eurowings criticized the strike as disproportionate and irresponsible.

The strike is scheduled to run from Monday through Wednesday. It was not yet clear which flights would be affected on Tuesday and Wednesday. However, Eurowings expected to be able to carry out more than half of the planned flight program. The fact that a large part of the flights can take place despite the strike is partly due to the fact that the machines of the Austrian subsidiary Eurowings Europe are not affected by the industrial action.

It is the second time in less than 14 days that pilots at the Lufthansa subsidiary have stopped working. During the first strike on October 6, about half of all flights were canceled.
