Women's World Cup: South Korean Phair, 16, becomes the youngest player to enter the competition

South Korean striker Casey Phair, 16 years and 26 days old, became the youngest ever player to play at a Women's World Cup on Tuesday, against Colombia in Sydney.

Born in the United States to an American father and a South Korean mother, the young player entered the game in the 78th minute at the Football Stadium in Sydney, without managing to prevent her team from losing 2-0 against the Colombians for their first match in this edition.

She overtakes Nigerian Ifeanyi Chieljine, who was 16 years and 34 days old when she made her World Cup debut in 1999. Phair had played for the United States in the youth categories, before choosing South Korea for this World Cup in Oceania.
