The 2024 European Water Polo Championships will not take place in Netanya in Israel next January as initially planned due to the conflict between Israel and Palestinian Hamas, the European Swimming Federation announced on Thursday.
“Following the recent terrorist attacks in Israel, and after extensive meetings between European Aquatics and the Israeli Water Polo Federation, both institutions agreed that it was impossible to organize the European Water Polo Championships in Netanya, Israel, as planned in January 2024,” the European body wrote in a press release.
The competition was to take place from January 3 to 16 in this Israeli city located about thirty kilometers north of Tel Aviv.
Different options are currently being studied regarding the qualification process for the next World Water Polo Championships which will take place in Doha in February, the Federation said.
