US Open: after his semi-final defeat against Daniil Medvedev, Carlos Alcaraz gives up the Davis Cup with Spain

The experienced Albert Ramos (35 years old, 88th player in the world) will replace Alcaraz for the matches which will take place in Valencia from September 12 to 17, said the Spanish tennis federation in a press release.

In the absence of Rafael Nadal, Alcaraz was to be the leader of the Spanish team and in particular to reunite with his Serbian rival Novak Djokovic, whom he beat in a thrilling final at Wimbledon in July, and whom he could have found in the final of the US Open on Sunday, if he had defeated Medvedev on Friday evening in the semi-final.

Spain will also face the Czech Republic and South Korea in the group stage, aiming to qualify for the round of 16, which takes place from November 21-26 in Malaga.

The first two in the group will qualify.
