Swiss tennis player Belinda Bencic, 14th in the world and Olympic champion in Tokyo, announced on Friday that she was pregnant. “We are expecting our little miracle soon! We can’t wait to meet you,” she wrote in a publication on her Instagram account where she appears with her companion.
Aged 26, Bencic, who rose to 4th place in the WTA rankings at the start of 2020, won the WTA 500 tournaments in Adelaide 2 in January and Abu Dhabi in February this season.
At the Tokyo Games in 2021, she gave Switzerland one of its three gold medals, beating the Czech Marketa Vondrousova in the singles final. She also won silver in doubles alongside Viktoria Golubic, beaten by two other Czechs, Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova.
