Frenchman Édouard Roger-Vasselin and Mexican Santiago Gonzalez qualified for the semi-finals of the ATP Masters doubles tournament on Thursday in Turin (Italy).
Roger-Vasselin and Gonzalez beat the American Austin Krajicek and the Croatian Ivan Dodig, respectively world number 1 and number 2 in doubles, 6-3, 3-6, 15/13 after fending off several match points.
Roger-Vasselin and Gonzalez, tied for 9th in the world doubles ranking, have just won the Basel tournament and the Masters 1000 in Paris in quick succession.
They have won five titles together this season.
Their semi-final is scheduled for Saturday against opponents who will be known at the end of the 6th day of the tournament, Friday.
They began the ATP Masters with a defeat against Spaniard Marcel Granollers and Argentinian Horacio Zeballos 2-6, 6-3, 10/7. They then beat Argentinians Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni 6-4, 6-4.
Roger-Vasselin is competing in the “Masters tournament” in doubles for the third time. He reached, and lost, the final in 2020 with Austrian Jürgen Melzer.
