Swimming: for a hundredth Grousset dominates Manaudou at the French Short Course Championships

The duel between Maxime Grousset and Florent Manaudou turned to the advantage of the first by a hundredth, Friday in Angers during the final of the 50 m freestyle of the French Short Course Championships. Grousset, already winner of the 100m butterfly and the 100m medley on Thursday, won in 20 sec 98/100, snatching victory from Manaudou who had made the best start.

“He put pressure on me, I didn’t give up until the last meter. (...) It’s the kind of rivalry that is fun,” smiled Grousset at the end of the race, which was one of the most anticipated events of the competition. “When the races are decided in advance, it's not fun,” added Manaudou, all smiles who said he was happy with his time (20.99). “It’s great, I need to have guys like Max pushing me, and I think he does too. I told him: You're not going to win easily, you're going to have to swim fast! We race and the best one won today.”

In the other duel of the day, Mewen Tomac once again got the upper hand over Yohann Ndoye-Brouard, this time in the 100m backstroke, after having already dominated his rival the day before in the 200m. Charlotte Bonnet, who had somewhat abandoned the crawl last season, won the 200m freestyle and obtained her ticket for the European Championships next December.

The day after his victory in the 400 m, the young Pacôme Bricout, 18 years old, smashed his personal best in the 800 m by almost 8 seconds to win in 7 min 35 sec 30/100th, ahead of Damien Joly, 31 years old, who was his coach when he was a child. The two men, as well as Logan Fontaine and David Aubry, will go to Bucharest in December to defend their chances against the European elite.
