One player who will not be part of Steve Borthwick's plans, for the next two years at least, is Henry Arundell, after the 21-year-old winger extended his contract with French club Racing 92 rather than signing one new hybrid contracts from the English Federation and joining Bath. “I said to him: 'Henry, I'm really disappointed, because I want you to come back to England and I'd love to see you in the England shirt, but I want you to succeed',” Borthwick said.
“He has been very clear that he wants to return for the 2026/2027 season and wants to play for England in the next World Cup. I can see him playing an important role in the England team over the coming seasons and gaining experience, and I will follow him closely,” concluded the XV de la Rose coach. At mid-season, Arundell is already one of the best recruits in the Top 14. Playing four times, the former London Irish player has scored five tries, making him the fifth best scorer in the championship.
