The Spaniard Roberto Bautista (66th player in the world) opened the Masters 1000 at Paris-Bercy by sweeping the Czech Jiri Lehecka (30th) 6-4, 6-2, Monday on the first day of the Paris tournament.
Calm on his serve, Bautista managed to take his opponent's faceoff four times to win in two sets and 1h11 minutes of play.
He will face in the next round the winner of the meeting scheduled for Tuesday between the American Sebastian Korda (24th) and the Pole Hubert Hurkacz (11th), winner of the Masters 1000 in Shanghai in mid-October and finalist of the Basel tournament on Sunday.
The main headliners, including the Serbian world No.1 Novak Djokovic and the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz (2nd), will only enter the competition on Tuesday or Wednesday.
