Premier League: Manchester City must not tremble at Tottenham to remain master of their destiny

The Gunners will support Spurs. At the end of the English championship, which has not yet delivered its final verdict for the title, Mikel Arteta's men will be in front of their television to hope for a victory for Tottenham, this Tuesday evening, in an ultra-decisive meeting, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“I will be the biggest Tottenham fan of all time,” declared Kai Havertz, on the sidelines of his team’s success against Manchester United on Sunday at Old Trafford (0-1). Because opposite Spurs stands Manchester City, who want to get back in front of Arsenal and keep their destiny in hand before the final day of the Premier League on Sunday (5 p.m.).

Winners of Fulham (0-4) on Saturday, the Citizens, reigning champions, are on a series of 8 consecutive victories. Not enough to catch up with Arsenal who are leading the race by a small point with a match in hand. Next week, Arsenal will host Everton, while City will play West Ham at the Ethiad Stadium. Two matches well within the reach of the two behemoths, which suggests that everything can be decided this Tuesday evening.

“Our dream is, as we said a few weeks ago when Arsenal lost to Aston Villa, to arrive at the final matches with our destiny in our hands. Playing West Ham at home with the destiny that belongs to us,” recalled Pep Guardiola, in a press conference after the match against Fulham, before adding that his team loved playing under pressure. “Great players like to play with a lot of pressure. And I have the feeling that my players like to play with pressure. They are incredible personalities. Otherwise you're not playing at that level and if you lose the game you lose the league."

If this Premier League shock no longer has the same flavor as at the start of the season, where Tottenham was among the leading teams, the Spurs are successful against the Citizens, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Since its delivery in 2019, the new venue has hosted Manchester City 4 times with as many defeats in the Premier League. Pep Guardiola's players didn't even score a single goal. An unfortunate statistic for a team that has had one of the best attacks in the world for years.

The Arsenal Gunners must undoubtedly see this as a sign, that of the precious help of the London rival, sworn enemy, to seek a first championship title since 2004, the year of the Invincibles. Manchester City fans can reassure themselves by remembering the recent victory of the gang against Guardiola, on the pitch of Tottenham, in the FA Cup, last January (0-1).

5th in the Premier League and currently qualified for the Europa League group stage, Tottenham are doing poorly in the league. Before a victory last weekend against Burnley (2-1) at home, Spurs remained on four defeats in a row. With this state of form, it's hard to believe that Postecoglou's men will succeed in thwarting the plans of Guardiola's. In the first leg, they did so by equalizing at the last minute thanks to Dejan Kulusevski (3-3) last December.
