Mercato: Arsenal confirms the departure to Türkiye of Nicolas Pépé

The Arsenal club confirmed on Saturday the departure of its Ivorian striker Nicolas Pépé, once the most expensive transfer in the history of the Gunners, who signed with the Turks of Trabzonspor.

Arsenal, who released him from his remaining year of contract, had paid some 80 million euros to bring him from Lille in August 2019 (the north London club paid 122 million this summer to make come Declan Rice).

The Ivory Coast international scored 27 goals in 111 appearances for Arsenal but never really convinced, and started only 43 times. Last season, he returned to the French championship on loan to OGC Nice without succeeding in getting back on track, mainly due to a recurring knee injury.

“We are able to confirm that Nicolas Pépé is leaving the club. We have agreed to terminate his contract with immediate effect,” Arsenal announced in a statement.

The Ivorian international (37 caps, 10 goals) announced his arrival in the Turkish club's squad on Friday.
