Ligue 2: a Bordeaux supporter pushes a Rodez player, match definitely stopped

The match counting for the 38th and last day of Ligue 2 between Bordeaux and Rodez was definitively interrupted after a Ruthenian player was hit by a Bordeaux supporter in the 22nd minute.

Lucas Buades had just victoriously taken over a cross from his teammate Corredor and was celebrating in front of the Girondins supporters, when an individual came into contact. The player collapsed on the lawn and took long minutes to get up. He suffered from a concussion.

The referee finally sent the 22 players back to the locker room. A crisis unit took place at the Matmut-Atlantique stadium. 45 minutes later, the referee of the meeting, Nicolas Rainville, came to announce the definitive end of the meeting with regard to the state of health of Lucas Buades, evacuated.

“During the celebration of the Ruthénois goal, a spectator came to violently push one of the players. This one is injured. He was examined by the visiting club doctor and by the emergency doctor on duty, he cannot resume the meeting because he is concussed. In collaboration with the team of delegates and the LFP (Professional Football League, editor's note), we have respected the rules: the match will not resume, ”said Nicolas Rainville.

Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra welcomed "the firm decision of the LFP": "Violence has no place in the stadiums and our line is clear: zero tolerance", she tweeted, warning that it will be “very attentive to the sanctions which will be taken by the authorities and by justice”.

“The LFP Disciplinary Committee will meet on Monday to study the follow-up. The LFP strongly condemns this act of violence against a player and wishes a speedy recovery to Lucas Buades,” the LFP said in a statement.

This decision could spell the end of the Girondins' ambition to return to Ligue 1, a year after leaving the elite: on this final day, the Bordeaux club had to win and hope for a misstep from Le Havre or Metz, respectively first and second before this final day, to win his ticket.
