Everyone - in the aisles of the Accor Arena - hoped to witness an explosive semi-final in the under 78 kilo category between the two French women fighting to obtain qualification for Paris 2024. Alas, neither Audrey Tcheumeo nor Madeleine Malonga failed to reach the quarter-finals. Nevertheless, the confrontation will take place, in repechage.
First in action, Malonga was unable to do anything against the world number 2, the Italian Alice Bellandi, who took the advantage on a waza-ari, an advantage which she retained until the end despite the attempts, sometimes a little desperate, from the Frenchwoman. In the process, Tcheumeo could therefore mark her territory by qualifying but in the golden score, she was surprised by the Dutch Guusje Steenhuis, who inflicted an ippon on her.
