Judo, Paris Grand Slam: Tcheuméo refuses to shake Malonga’s hand after his defeat

The clash between Audrey Tcheuméo and Madeleine Malonga took place at the Accor Arena this Sunday. Not in the semi-finals, as the Parisian public hoped, but during the repechage in the under 78kg category. A fight which hardly caused any sparks, except in its outcome...

Indeed, in a very tactical confrontation, without any real attack, everything came down to a deluge of penalties. Each warned twice, the fight changed after examination of the video which led the referee to impose a third sanction on a Tcheuméo in total incomprehension. And who was wrong to refuse to shake hands with his opponent and compatriot. She responded with a thumbs-up as a sign of congratulations tinged with irony.

This success for Malonga, if she manages to confirm it later today by winning the bronze medal, could prove decisive in the race for Olympic qualification in this category. Even if Audrey Tcheuméo said she was “very calm” after her defeat, believing that her 2023 season could not be erased in one fell swoop. On the other hand, not a word, or almost, about her refusal to shake her opponent's hand, the judokate simply blurting out: "it's judo." Not sure that the selection committee of the French federation is completely of the same opinion...
