Judo: “I heard cracking and it made me panic,” admits Luka Mkheidze

Frenchman Luka Mkheidze (-60 kg) suffered an injury to his right knee on Friday in the final of the Antalya Grand Slam. “It's okay, I heard cracking, and it freaked me out, because I got the crosses. But the physiotherapist reassured me, the cracking doesn’t mean anything, so I’m waiting to see when it’s cold,” explained the 2023 European champion after his silver medal.

“When hot I can walk, it’s okay. It’s not painful, but I just have a weird feeling in my knee,” he continued. In the final, we heard the Frenchman shout when the Russian Ayub Bliev leaned on his knee. The fight, interrupted for a moment, resumed and the Frenchman continued, losing however in overtime.

“It definitely took me out of my final a bit. It’s still just a tournament so I don’t want to break my ligaments, because it’s just preparation,” he smiled, a little bitter, “tired” after a “big block work”, an internship in Uzbekistan and Japan then this tournament. The 28-year-old Frenchman must see the French team doctor upon his return to France on Saturday.
