Inter Milan will face Naples on Monday in the final of the Italian Super Cup after their 3-0 victory in the semi-final against Lazio Rome on Friday in Riyadh. Inter, double title holder, can become the second team in the history of the event created in 1988 to win it three times in a row, after AC Milan, crowned in 1992, 1993 and 1994. Their coach Simone Inzaghi, for his part, can lift the trophy for the fifth time in his career, which would be the new record for a coach. The leader in the ranking of the Italian Championship and 2023 European vice-champion won thanks to goals from Marcus Thuram (17th), Hakan Calhanoglu, from the penalty spot (50th) and Davide Frattesi (87th).
The day before, Naples, reigning Italian champion, had emerged from its slump (8th in Serie A, twenty points behind Inter) by dominating Fiorentina 3-0 in front of the sparse Al-Awwal Park stands which were more full (20,000 spectators) for the second semi-final. The Italian Super Cup has been relocated to Saudi Arabia since 2018, but did not take place in the wealthy kingdom in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid pandemic. It is being contested this season in a new formula with four teams, the reigning Italian champion (Naples) and its runner-up (Lazio), the winner of the last Italian Cup (Inter Milan) and the finalist (Fiorentina).
