Paris SG handball ceded first place in its Champions League group to Kiel by losing the summit match at home 34-28 against the Germans on Thursday in Coubertin.
This is the Parisians' second European defeat this season in six matches and their first in front of their home crowd. They retain, two points behind Kiel, second place in the group, synonymous with qualifying for the quarters without going through the play-offs.
The two teams were neck and neck for three-quarters of the match (27-27 in the 48th) thanks to goals from Polish pivot Kamil Syprzak (8 in total). Mathieu Grébille's teammates (5 goals) collapsed in the last ten minutes against the saves of Kiel's second goalkeeper, the Frenchman Samir Bellahcene, who entered at the end of the match.
