Montpellier's Argentinian international center-half Diego Simonet, initially linked until next June with the Hérault club, has extended his contract until 2026, announced the French vice-champion club. Simonet (33 years old), arrived in 2013 from Ivry, is beginning his 11th season in Hérault. Approached by Barcelona and Magdeburg, according to various media, the Montpellier strategist preferred to continue his adventure at MHB.
“Beyond his very high level sporting performances, Diego reflects the DNA of Montpellier Handball,” said President Julien Deljarry. With Montpellier, Simonet notably won the Champions League in 2018 during the Final Four in Cologne, where he was named best player. Convalescent, the Argentine center-half did not participate in Montpellier's success against Chambéry (32-26) on Sunday on the second day of the championship.
