Formula 1: Hamilton and Mercedes at the forefront of the 2nd free practice session in Bahrain

Briton Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) set the best time in the 2nd free practice session of the Bahrain Grand Prix, 1st round of the Formula 1 World Championship, Thursday at the Sakhir circuit.

In the cool, the seven-time world champion dominated his teammate and compatriot George Russell and the Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso, 3rd best time of the session.

The Spaniard Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) and the Australian Oscar Piastri, at the wheel of his McLaren, complete the Top 5. The three-time reigning world champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull) is 6th.

During this second free practice session of the weekend, run at nightfall, all the drivers improved their times compared to the first session held under the sun a few hours earlier.

This session is also the only one representative of the conditions of qualifying on Saturday and the race on Sunday. Free practice 3 will be scheduled during the day, at 1:30 p.m. local Friday, before qualifying at 5:00 p.m.
