FIFA announced on Monday that it was extending to the international level the sanctions imposed by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) on 11 players involved in a match-fixing scandal in Brazil.
“FIFA confirms the extension to the global level of the sanctions imposed on 11 players by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), following match manipulation in Brazil,” we can read in a press release published by the world body of football headquartered in Zurich.
The measures imposed on these 11 players range from a 360-day suspension to a lifetime suspension for three of them.
The scandal came to light last spring following an alert launched in November 2022 by the president of a second division club.
These fixed matches, with payments of money to players so that they could be warned, expelled, or cause penalties, were used to guarantee substantial profits on betting sites, according to elements released by the public prosecutor's office. State of Goias (center).
At least one player playing in the first division, Santos defender Eduardo Bauermann, whose contract was terminated at the end of June by his club, is suspended from all football activity for a period of 360 days from May 16, specifies the FIFA.
