Former Spanish international Cesc Fabregas will make his coaching debut at the helm of Como, the Italian 2nd division club announced on Monday.
Como, sixth in Italian Serie B, fired Moreno Longo, their coach since September 2022, two days after a 1-0 victory at Ascoli.
“After several months of strategic reflection, the board of directors decided that a change of dynamic was the best thing for the club,” explained the Lombard club led by former England international Dennis Wise, in a press release.
Fabregas, who had been in charge of the reserve team since August, was appointed on an interim basis, “pending the appointment of a coach in the near future,” said the Lombard club, which is eight points behind the leader, Parma.
Fabregas, 36, wore the jerseys of Arsenal (2004-11), Barcelona (2011-14), Chelsea (2014-19) and Monaco (2019-22) during his career, before finishing his career at Como the last season.
Selected 110 times for the Spanish team, he won two European titles with La Roja (2008, 2012) and the 2010 World Cup.
