Cyclo-cross: the Dutchman del Grosso wins the hopeful world title

The Dutchman Tibor del Grosso became the cyclo-cross world champion among hopefuls (under 23) on Saturday in Tabor in the Czech Republic where he beat the Belgians Emiel Verstrynge and Jente Michels.

This trio managed to break away at the start of the race while a collective fall had caused a split in the peloton. The Dutchman then took control, letting go of the Belgian duo on the second lap before winning alone with a 27-second lead.

Del Grosso, 20, finished 2nd in the 2023 edition behind Belgian Thibau Nys in Hoogerheide, the Netherlands. “I always dreamed of becoming world champion. So, to achieve it on a circuit as legendary as Tabor, it’s fantastic,” he reacted to the UCI microphone.

The French Léo Bisiaux and Rémi Lelandais finished just off the podium, 4th and 5th respectively.
