Cycling: Kämna released from hospital

German runner Lennard Kämna, seriously injured in training a month ago in Tenerife, is authorized to leave hospital and will return to his country during the day, his Bora-Hansgrohe team announced on Wednesday.

Victim of a collision with a car in early April on this Canary island which serves as a training base for numerous training courses, Kämna, 27, will be followed by Bora's medical team in Hamburg (north), where he will be able to begin his convalescence, it is further indicated in a press release.

The rider, stage winner during the 2020 Tour de France, suffered from “serious chest trauma with rib fractures and pulmonary contusion” and had to spend several days in intensive care.

“I am very motivated to get back on my bike as soon as possible. But the most important thing is to get healthy first,” said Lennard Kämna, quoted in the press release, thanking his loved ones and all those who have supported him over the past month.
