Cycling: a bicycle given by Bernal to Pope Francis sold at auction for 14,000 euros

Imagine a Colombian cyclist offering a gift worth 14,000 euros to the Holy Father of Argentinian origin. This scene is very real and occurred in 2021, a few days after the end of the Tour of Italy (Giro).

Winner of this edition of the Giro, Egan Bernal, a fervent Catholic, met Pope Francis and presented him with a Pinarello brand bicycle, decorated in Argentinian colors referring to the origin of the Holy Father. The latter, estimated between 25,000 and 30,000 euros by experts, was sold for the modest sum of... 14,000 euros. An amount significantly lower than that of the expertise.

And as if the sale of the bike was not enough, the pink jersey, also offered to the Pope by Egan Bernal, was also sold. 1853 euros had to be paid to afford this tunic.
