Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Democratic Republic of Congo… Various avenues were mentioned to host the Champions Trophy, initially planned for last summer in Thailand before being postponed. In recent weeks, the trend has been to see this traditional match between the reigning French champion and the holder of the Coupe de France, in this case PSG and Toulouse, played out in France. TFC hoped to host at the Stadium on January 3. Finally, the meeting should take place… at the Parc des Princes, as reported by L’Équipe and several other sources. It is in any case “the very strong trend”, as reported by the sports daily, while Le Parisien specifies that PSG pushed hard to avoid a trip to Kinshasa at the start of the year, with a long trip and a significant temperature difference. The Congolese capital will, a priori, be a candidate for the summer 2024 edition.
Since 2009, the Professional Football League has chosen to relocate the Champions Trophy outside the borders of France, from Canada to Israel, via the United States, China and Morocco. One exception: due to Covid, PSG faced OM in Lens at the start of 2021. PSG is also the record holder for an event (11 coronations) that TFC has never won.
