Boxing: Haney suffers his first career defeat but keeps his WBC belt

American Devin Haney, WBC super-lightweight champion, recorded the first defeat of his career, losing on points to his compatriot Ryan Garcia on Saturday in Brooklyn.

The title of Haney, 25, won last December by defeating Regis Prograis by unanimous decision, was however not at stake, Garcia having narrowly exceeded the limit of 140 pounds (63.5 kg) during the weigh-in.

But, for his 32nd fight, the former undisputed lightweight world champion nonetheless bit the dust: he was knocked down three times by an opponent, a star of social networks, who himself had suffered his first defeat almost a year ago to the day against Gervonta Davis.

At the end of the 12 rounds, one judge gave the two American boxers a tie, while the other two gave Garcia the winner.
