Australian Open: Mannarino qualified after a five-set marathon

Adrian Mannarino, French No.1 and newcomer in the top 20 (19th) at 35, once again needed five sets to qualify for the third round of the Australian Open at the expense of the Spaniard Jaume Munar (82nd), beaten 6-3, 6-3, 1-6, 2-6, 6-3 on Wednesday.

Already in the first round, Mannarino won in five sets against another thirty-year-old, the Swiss Stan Wawrinka (6-4, 3-6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-0). In two matches, he has already spent exactly seven hours on the courts at Melbourne Park.

In the next round, the French left-hander will challenge the young American Ben Shelton (16th).

Like Mannarino, Luca Van Assche, hope of French tennis at 19 years old (79th), reached the third round after winning a second match in five sets in a row.

Hugo Gaston (97th) did not exist against world No.12 Taylor Fritz, winner 6-0, 6-3, 6-1 in just 88 minutes.
