Alpine skiing: Meillard wins the Aspen slalom, Noël goes out in the second round

Swiss Loic Meillard won the Aspen slalom counting for the Alpine Ski World Cup on Sunday in the Colorado resort, his first victory in the discipline ahead of German Linus Strasser and Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen. Best time in the first round, the Frenchman Clément Noël jumped into the second after a third of the route, letting slip a fifth podium this winter (no victory) which was waiting for him.

Meillard signs his third World Cup victory after winning the parallel giant slalom of Chamonix in February 2020 and the giant slalom of Schladming in January 2023. The 27-year-old Swiss had an almost perfect weekend in Colorado after taking two second place in the giant slaloms contested in Aspen on Friday and Saturday behind his compatriot Marco Odermatt, shattering the giant invincibility of the leader of the general classification of the World Cup.

Thanks to his second place in Aspen, Strasser is 169 points behind the Austrian Manuel Feller, 5th on Sunday, in the race for the small crystal globe of the discipline, which rewards the most consistent slalom skier of the winter. There are two slaloms remaining in Kranjska Gora in Slovenia next week and in Saalbach in Austria a week later for the World Cup finals.
