Slovak skier Petra Vlhova must end her season after her fall on Saturday during the Jasna giant, her coach said. The 28-year-old skier, who won the overall World Cup ranking in the 2020-2021 season and is Mikaela Shiffrin's main rival in slalom, fell heavily at the 9th giant gate on Saturday.
“Petra suffers from a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament” in her right knee, her coach Mauro Pini told the Slovak media. “It means the season is over for us. From now on we focus on the future.”
At home in Jasna, the 2022 Olympic slalom champion was evacuated in a boat by the emergency services, in front of her fans who came in large numbers to encourage her. The Slovak with 31 World Cup victories had so far had a superb season with three slalom victories, often after close duels with Mikaela Shiffrin.
