Google, Fitbit, and the two turkeys

It all looked so promising for Google's the Smartwatch platform. Companies such as Samsung, Motorola, LG, Sony or of the Swiss watch manufacturer TAG Heuer were on Board. The success of Android for Smartphones, would certainly watch again.

Then everything fell apart. Intel gave up, Samsung focused on its own Tizen platform, and especially bad: Google (the Software supplier) and Qualcomm (the main Chip supplier) lost any interest. Google's last big watch partner Fossil had since then to take in the absence of Software and Chip Expertise, what was left. Apart from fossil watches are the impetus for Google's Wear OS is now almost completely out.

Sandwiched between the Apple and cheap manufacturers

for Fitbit , everything looked so promising. The Fitness wristbands have already before things (sleep tracking, heart rate measurement), which today is still not all Smartwatches . The bracelets were the epitome of the Tracking bracelet. One was wearing a Fitbit. No matter, whether it was from Fitbit or Jawbone (another failed manufacturer). The Fitbit bands were in harmony with Android and Apple phones, and even on Windows, you could monitor their number of steps and slept for hours.

Then the professional watches from Garmin arrived, and especially the Apple Watch, and grabbed Fitbit path across the output to customers. After that, the Chinese corporations and grabbed Fitbit got away the price-conscious customers with significantly lower Tracking bracelets. No wonder, thought Fitbit to escape from the device market in the lucrative health sector. Also a sale was an Option.

Google

Now, reports Reuters, that Google had made an offer for Fitbit. If this is accepted, will show the next days and weeks. If you look at the two potential partners, one must inevitably think of an American proverb: "Two turkeys do not make a eagle".

in 2011, made the Turkey-comparison of the round. As it was, of all things, a high-ranking Google employee commented on this on Twitter the decision of Nokia to bet the future on Microsoft's mobile platform, something toxic.

He was right. A few years later, the collaboration of the two providers in the descent failed in spectacular fashion.

Want to avoid Google's computer clocks a similar fate, it takes more than mergers and acquisitions. It requires ideas, commitment and the right Chips. But maybe Google simply on the collected patents and user data from Fitbit.
