Olympics North and South Korea would next year at the Olympic Games of Tokyo in various team sports as one country office. That has Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), at a meeting with both countries confirmed.

The two koreas are currently in Lausanne, together with the IOC. There are interviews on the calendar for next year in Japan under the same flag to take part in the sportevent, but also a joint Korean candidacy for the edition of 2032 is discussed. North and South Korea have still the ambition to work together for the Olympics in 2032 to organize. After negotiations with the IOC must be reflected in the extent to which the proposal is feasible.

The last time there is a thaw occurred between the two koreas. During the past Winter games in 2018, the two countries in a United Korean ice hockey team. North and South Korea went under one flag during the opening ceremony. Later names there are also mixed teams competed at the Asian Games and the world cup handball.

IOC welcomes potential joint Korean candidacy to

The IOC sees at the moment no problems with a possible joint candidacy of North and South Korea for the Olympic Games of 2032. IOC-president Thomas Bach speaks of a “historic initiative”.

“The talks today show once again that sport can make an important contribution to the peace on the Korean peninsula and in the rest of the world,” said Bach. “We have a strong foundation on which we can build, even after the Games of 2020. Sport will be bridges to build and the unifying force of the Play. Therefore we welcome the historic initiative of the two koreas, aiming at a joint candidacy for the 2032, very warm.”

Japan boosts budget for the opening and closing

The cost of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games of 2020 in Tokyo walk higher than thought. The organizers made it known that they increase the budget to 13 billion yen (nearly 104 million euro).

In 2013, when Tokyo the organization of the Games in the awards, attracted the organization to 72 million euro for the two ceremonies. Also a general budget for the global sportevent had been in the height to be adjusted.

The amount of 104 million euros is a large sum of money, but Tokyo it's cheaper than London, that in 2012, nearly 128 million needed. Paris has for the beginning - and slotshow of 2024 an operational budget of eur 119 million.
