A former professional cyclist has been arrested in Italy, where he served as an intermediary in the cocaine-trades.
The case of the 30-year-old colombianer Juan Pablo Valencia, who acted as a courier and transported cocaine from Montegranaro at the Adriatic sea and further north in the country.
After a tip was the local police located Valencia, who was arrested, when he on a mountain bike left his home. During the arrest he tried to dispose of two packages, which turned out to contain a total of 20 grams of pure cocaine. This writes the Italian newspaper Il Resto del Carlino.
A study of the home revealed a further 40 grams of pure cocaine and 4000 euros (30.000 dollars) in cash. In addition, police found signs that Valencia had smuggled the substance stored in its seatpost.
Juan Pablo Valencia ran from 2012 at the colombian Team Colombia, which closed in 2015. The team enjoyed the then relatively big success and was invited to many big races - among other things, the Giro d'italia in 2014 and the Vuelta a España the following year.
