New jätteskräll in the biathlon: Ponsiluoma on the podium

It has been a good half hour ago sensation when DN reaches Martin Ponsiluoma on the telephone. The first anonymous has received the flowers and stepped up on a prispall, sitting on a presskonferenspodium and gratulerats of both competitors and teammates. Suddenly, he is Sweden's latest succénamn in the biathlon. And the idea is difficult to take in.

"You have dreamed your whole life about making good profit, to stand up there someday and now I finally feel it," he says, laughing.

" I have no words. This is how big time. I am just how happy anywhere.

there was talk about Sebastian Samuelsson and Jesper Nelin. When would the Swedish OLYMPIC heroes from last winter to take his first individual podium finishes in the world cup?

Samuelsson and Nelin had their eyes on in the sprint in the Czech Nove Mesto. But it was the team, perhaps the most anonymous riders who are struck.

Ponsiluoma made a world cup races of the season 2016-17, but came up in the A-landslagstruppen on really in the last year. He was in the relay team as one with victory in Hochfilzen this weekend and have already had a stafettseger on his cv, from the world cup in Oberhof last season.

But in the OLYMPIC world in Seoul, he was only a reserve. And individually in the world cup he had the best finished in 18th place.

" It was incredible! says the team skyttetränare Johan Hagström to DN.

" You knew that he was good, but that he would be on the podium... it is clear that it is surprised. He shoots not only full, but fast too. And it was really good skiing. World class.

"He is one of those young and promising that we've invested in and he has been training hard," says Hagström.

During the summer and fall, Martin has been one of the strongest.

can only agree.

"It has been very good in the summer, it feels like I have taken a step forward," he says.

" the Shooting has been stable all the time and I have been hanging out with ”Sebbe” (Samuelsson) on the training.

"a Lot," says Ponsiluoma.

" I already knew then that the shape was very good and that I hung with the good in the track. Already then I felt that I have more to give.

– It is when I go in target and people start to congratulate one. Then I realize that this has gone well, before, I had no idea.
