Gritty is now fuel for nightmares by Donald Trump

And then it slips in fact. For the very first Time the new mascot of the Philadelphia Flyers runs on the ice and falls. Boom. Full on the ass. First of all, the people laughing in the hall and on the TV. Then the people laugh in front of their mobile phones and computers, while the Video spread rapidly and in an endless loop. Boom. Again and again.

The history of this orange creature would have to be there can end. But this awkward debut was the beginning of the story of how the mascot of a sports team was within a few months to cult icon whose impact far beyond the Sport.

"It me. #Gritty"

it all Started with the death of. In April 2016, Ed Snider, the owner of the Philadelphia Flyers died. Snider was a man of the old school and one of the reasons why the Flyers are one of the few NHL Teams with no mascot. As in Philadelphia, a new era dawned, put the marketing team to the new owners to consider, but the thing with the mascot again. The fluffy cheers monster pits from a marketing perspective, often gold.

On the 24. September saw the world of the Gritty for the first Time. The image was designed in the style of an old hockey card collection. "It's me. #Gritty" in the first Tweet. And oh, how the Internet responded. "Terrible material for your nightmares." "Horrible." "Disturbing." On the day of its presentation of Gritty "was" the most gegoogelte word in the whole of North America. And it seemed as if all of North America laughed.

"Our marketing consultant told us that there would be mixed reactions. We had also prepared a Plan to deal with that," says Sarah Schwab, marketing Manager of the Flyers. The Plan is not needed. The Pittsburg Penguins made the Job.

"lol, ok" and wrote this to Grittys image on Twitter. Roughly translates to: "are you Serious?" Gritty wrote: "today to sleep with one eye open, bird." And so easily he had won. As if the little brother is, uh, bumped in to the break space, the Flyers-Fans – and behind Gritty. They realized that they had something the other liked. And it began to love.

In a city whose identity is made up of a mixture of pride, a long history of sporting defeats and a We-against-the-Rest-of-world-mentality, was Gritty to be the best patron Saint. At the end of October, the municipality issued a decision to Gritty hot officially welcome you to: "Gritty may be an ugly Monster", is in there, "but he's our ugly Monster."

And Gritty? The made easy. With each next action, he was even more iconic. He was staged allusions in pop culture, like Miley Cyrus on a wrecking ball in the hall flew, or published a photo in the style of Kim Kardashians famous Butt image. And he was not always as nice as it is otherwise known from mascot. Recently, he delivered in a third break in a battle with three Christmas men.

identified by even more people with him. On the third day of its existence, the socialist US magazine "Jacobin tweeted": "Gritty is a worker." On the ninth day of the new era of the Twitter Account "Fellow Worker Gritty" went online, the day-in, day-out images published, the Gritty as a socialist anti-fascist icon.

came in early October, Donald Trump to Philadelphia, went to people with self-made posters on the street. "Gritty hates Trump" on it. And: "Gritty says: get the Fuck out of our city."

That Gritty was as plush become the epitome of a marketing strategy for the socialists icon, is another quirky facet to his story. For the Flyers, he is a full success. Over 200’000 people follow him on Twitter. Renowned American publications devoted to him a long article. Joe Heller, the Co-head of marketing, says: "It was the perfect storm."

Gritty has no gender, no sexual orientation, no ethnicity. Actually, can identify with no one really with him, but all somehow a bit. Gritty is a bit sesame street and a little horror film, and this somehow is the best essence for the world in which we live, the power sometimes surprised, but often just afraid.

Because he himself is so strange, he offers no attack surface. Also, that's why he works so well on the Internet.

As a reaction to his first mishap he tweeted: "Why no one told me that the ice is slippery?"
