At the slaughterhouse, according to the owners of the largest pig slaughterhouse of the country, for years, protested by a residents association and the municipality of Westerlo itself. Some of the counter arguments were the location of the site within 20 metres of a cemetery, odour and noise, and water resources. The province of Antwerp approved the beginning of 2015 however, environmental good, despite hundreds of objections and two petitions. In appeal also granted minister Schauvliege later that year a licence. In the meantime, the slaughterhouse also operational.

The flemish minister of Environment, Nature and Agriculture Joke Schauvliege (CD&V) refuse a new licence, to grant to nv The Lokery for the operation of the slaughterhouse Sus Campiniae in Oevel (Westerlo). A previous licence that the minister had granted, was made this spring by the Council of State destroyed. Schauvliege decision that "the annoyance and the effects on humans and the environment and the risks for the external safety is not to an acceptable level can be limited.”
