Vice President Kamala Harris to Seat National Space Council

The Council was reestablished from the Trump government in 2017.

Senior White House officials confirmed Saturday that the Biden government would assert the National Space Council which has been revived under the Trump government -- which Harris would function as chair.

The officials said that the National Space Council's fundamental goals -- domestic security, fundamental science, technological advancement and donations to U.S. economic growth in the industrial sector -- will be preserved under Harris' leadership, including that the vice president will probably even attempt to"set her personal stamp on the Council."

Harris is planing a specific focus on many areas, such as sustainable development of commercial space action, calm boundaries and responsible behaviours in distance, in addition to climate change and improving cybersecurity in space systems, '' the officials stated.

The vice president will utilize a civilian executive secretary of the National Space Council made by Biden -- a stance the government is now working to fulfill, according to officials.

"I think that her approach for this is simply going to be to find the task done, and use it to direct our space policy, rather than actually concentrate, possibly just as much on large screens," one official said when asked Harris' strategy would differ from that of her predecessor, former Vice President Mike Pence.

Since the beginning of the government, Biden has tasked Harris together with leading the efforts to deal with the root causes of migration from Central America and declared Harris would direct implementing universal broadband net from the U.S., all along with her role helping sell his ambitious infrastructure along with household program.

A government official worried the National Space Council could have equal significance on Harris' growing list of duties.

"The president and vice president not just take this quite seriously, they understand how important it's when it comes to innovation, concerning creativity, concerning the competitiveness of the United States -- something that the president speaks about in his combined speech Wednesday evening," they stated.

"It is not that one priority is more significant than another, but all these are matters that the government believes is significant... it is important work, it is critical function, and function the president is elated to perform."

Thus far, the Biden government has mostly kept Trump government space coverage in place, ongoing support for the Space Force made under Trump and also NASA's Artemis program, directed at returning astronauts to the moon and creating a continuing presence there as prep for another frontier in human space travel: Mars.

Biden revealed his support for its latest NASA accomplishment, the Perseverance rover's successful landing on Mars in February.

"I just -- I simply can not tell you just how much I think historians will write about everything you did in the present time you did this," Biden told the staff supporting the job on a telephone in March. "You ought to take such great pride -- these great pride in everything you did."

We can conquer a pandemic. With science, vision and hope, there is not something we can not do as a nation," he added.
