According to WELT information, Berlin's governing mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD) is aiming for a grand coalition. Accordingly, Giffey wants to propose coalition negotiations with the CDU to the SPD state board this Wednesday.

He was responsible for the chaos election of September 2021 as an interior senator. The Left Party had also made far-reaching demands. Above all, she wanted a clear commitment to implementing the referendum on the expropriation of large housing construction companies in Berlin.

For the SPD politician, a coalition with the CDU would mean that she herself cannot remain governing mayor; the office would probably fall to CDU top candidate Kai Wegner. However, a post as a "super senator" is under discussion for Giffey.

Approval for the proposal is indicated in the SPD state executive. "I'm actually a friend of left alliances, but I'll also raise my arm for black and red tomorrow. Unfortunately, there is no way that feels right,” said Lichtenberg City Councilor Kevin Hönicke. "We need a fresh start.
