For these men, the war takes a break. There is a 20-year-old "from Leningrad", as he calls St. Petersburg, who has lost a leg. A young man in his 30s from Donetsk, missing a forearm. Or a man in his mid-forties from the Urals, with thick glasses, who still has all of his limbs and wishes for the Soviet Union back. There are hundreds of men here.

They all survived. And ended up in the central camp for prisoners of war in western Ukraine. Where exactly, may not be published. It is a sparse building: dormitories, a canteen, workshops, a hospital. New prisoners arrive regularly, others are exchanged. But many are here for several months.
