Birgit Malsack-Winkemann is retiring as a judge at the Berlin Regional Court. This was announced by a spokeswoman for the Berlin civil courts WELT. Former AfD MP and judge Malsack-Winkemann was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of having planned a coup and an attack against the Reichstag as a member of a far-right terrorist group.
Malsack-Winkemann worked as a judge at the Berlin Regional Court. Until Wednesday she was an assessor in civil chamber 19a of the Berlin district court. The Chamber has special responsibility for civil construction matters. Due to an urgent order by the president of the district court on Wednesday, the district court's business allocation plan was changed in such a way that Malsack-Winkemann is leaving chamber 19a at the district court, the spokeswoman said.

The Judicial Service Court of the State of Berlin had previously rejected a corresponding application by the Senate Department for Justice, Diversity and Anti-Discrimination to retire the judge.
