Trumps big talk: How it went with the promises

IMMIGRATION

It said Donald Trump:

'It is time to reform an outdated immigrationssystem. For over 30 years, Washington has tried unsuccessfully to solve this problem. This congress can fix it!'

Not met

In the weeks after the Trumps speech tried Congress four times to have adopted new immigration laws. All attempts failed, including the Trumps own proposal. Trump asked for the money for a wall at the border to Mexico, but it was not support for this. Trumps wall has arched legs for the negotiations.

TONE

It said Donald Trump:

'I urge everyone to find cohesion and community, so that we can deliver for the people we are elected to serve.'

Not met

Trumps a private Twitter feed as well as the 35-day shutdown of the state apparatus shows that there is a long way to fraternization. The democrats have also sharpened the tone against the president, which among other things has been called a 'motherfucker' of a newly elected kongreskvinde.

MILITARY

It said Donald Trump:

Here you have president Trump got his wish fulfilled, when a majority in Congress have increased the defence budget in 2018 and 2019. It is also expected to happen in 2020 and 2021.

PRODUCTION

It said Donald Trump:

'Chrysler, moving a large factory from Mexico to Michigan. Toyota and Mazda will open a plant in Alabama. Soon there will be opened up factories everywhere in the country.'

Status: Partially repaid

Toyota and Mazda went in november to establish a joint factory in Alabama. Chrysler had only promised to shift production of pickuptrucks – not the factory – from Mexico to Michigan, but has since put the plan on pause. And to the Trumps major annoyance has General Motors decided to close five factories.

trade AGREEMENTS

It said Donald Trump:

'We will fix the bad trade agreements and negotiate new ones. We will protect american workers through strong enforcement of our trade agreements.'

Status: Delivered

Trump has renegotiated Nafta, as well as an agreement with south Korea. While the gain in relation to south Korea is small, it is assessed that the UNITED states has been strengthened by the renegotiation of Nafta. Trump has also introduced duties on chinese products for 250 billion dollars. The UNITED states and China negotiate a solution.

BRIDGES AND ROADS

It said Donald Trump:

'tonight I ask the Congress to produce a bill that could result in at least 1500 billion dollars for new infrastructure.'

Status: Not met

There has not been produced a single bill that provides money to the us, bridges and roads. The White House announced later that through the savings be able to find $ 200 billion to infrastructure, but it was also in the Congress to action.

Not met

the Congress ignored the Trumps the desire to cut in ulandsbistanden and adopted budgets that were substantially larger, than the president wanted. But Trump has made symbolic changes. For example, The White House dropped the aid to the palestinians.
