It is in the american scientific journal Plos one, the study with the new dinosauriearten was published on 6 February. The new species was given the name Gobiraptor because it was found in the gobi desert in Mongolia, and must have been about as big as a chicken.

It is considered to belong to the branch Oviraptorosaurus which is a fjäderbeklädd art that lived to eat eggs. According to vetenskapsrapporten shall Gobiraptorn differ from their cousins by extra powerful jaws with extra strong jaw muscles. It also seems to have had no teeth.
