Representatives of the Yemeni government and the rebels met in the beginning of december in Sweden in an attempt to reach a peace agreement. The parties would then agree on the different phases of how the fighting would end, and a ceasefire was introduced on 18 december.

a spokesman for the united nations for the news agency Reuters that the two sides have finally agreed on the issue. In a first stage, it means that the rebels withdraw from the port cities of al-Hudaydah, Saleef and Ras Isa, while the government forces are withdrawing from the outskirts of al-Hudaydah.
