Greece's Parliament approved on Friday the North Macedonia's Nato accession. A majority of 153 deputies voted for the ratification of the recording, 140 voted against it. "Today's vote accomplished the most important part of the Greek obligations," said the head of government Alexis Tsipras before a vote. "I would like to welcome the North of Macedonia, a Greece friendly country," he added. The Northern neighbour has to be an ally in the efforts of security, stability and peace in the Region.
The Ambassador, the 29 Nato-members had on Wednesday the Protocol of Accession to the North of Macedonia signed. The member States need to ratify the recording on a national level, as Greece has done it now.
"history will judge us. I think we have fulfilled our Patriotic duty," said Tsipras. The agreement with the Northern neighbours have upgraded Greece's international Reputation.
Greece had blocked Macedonia's accession to Nato, as well as in the EU because of a dispute with the state name for years. The reason is the same-named Greek province of Macedonia. In June of last year, both sides agreed to, and agreed in the so-called Prespa-contract, that the country is called "Republic of Northern Macedonia".
