For those who may not know what that referred to as is the needlework in all its forms, knitting, crocheting, weaving, lacemaking, etc.

For my beloved grandmother was crocheting a very dear employment. I don't know how many quilts, and bedspreads she crocheted. Not to mention all the little (and quite large) canvases she produced with their industrious hands.
