the Mp, and KD's second vice-president Lars Adaktusson was april 5, was invited to a conference in the Colombian capital of Bogotá to give a talk on the persecution of religious minorities.
Today's ETC now meets the Adaktusson sharp criticism from both left and right and from RFSU for their participation at the conference.
the Conference was organized by the Political Network for Values, a deeply conservative network of politicians – both active and former, and other opinion leaders, mainly from Spanish speaking countries but also from Brazil, USA, Croatia and Hungary.
the Purpose is to lobby for a set of traditional values, such as the importance of marriage and the nuclear family, and against, among other things, abortion and state control of children's schooling.
the President is the Spanish högerpolitikern and former interior minister Jaime Mayor Oreja. Vice-president the Hungarian minister for social affairs Katalin Novák, who recently ended up in an argument about the Hungarian family policy with the Swedish social security Annika Strandhäll.
Every two years, organizes the network of an international conference. Among the speakers invited this year were in addition to Lars Adaktusson, among others, Alvaro Uribe, the former colombian president, Obianuju Ekeocha, the leader of a christian nigerian organization and Thomas Jacobson, president of a christian american organization against abortion.
Today's ETC pointed one of the the participants at the conference, Brian Brown, in his speech to the liberal financier George Soros as a chief enemy of the movement. Brown must also have stirred against journalists.
Spoke did also Sharon Slater, which is included in the network. She leads an american organization for traditional family formation and has described homosexuality as a mental disorder that can be treated away.
KD-politician and former acting president of the RFSL Magnus Kolsjö writes on Twitter:
”I was both disappointed and upset when I heard about the Lars Adaktussons participation in the Political Network for Values conference. I had never accepted to take part in such a context, and I am convinced that most christian democrats had reasoned that I am.”
Adaktussons choice to participate in Bogotá troubling even RFSU:s chairman of the board Hans Linde, who see the meeting as a part of the efforts to ”build alliances between ultra-conservative and far-right groups”.
these groups want nothing more than to get into the political heat, and when people like Lars Adaktusson involved, it gives them legitimacy, " says Linde to the newspaper the Worker.
member of the board of the Liberal youth of sweden Anders Viking Pettersson calls in the same journal Adaktussons participation ”extremely problematic”
Aftonbladet , their participation and mean that you sometimes end up in situations where not everyone thinks the same as yourself.
I had spoken before the communist leader also if I was invited, " he says.
the KD's editor-in-chief Per Gudmundsson, for a similar reasoning:
– When it comes to international contacts, it happens that you end up in situations where there are people or organisations that stand for something other than what you yourself stand for, " says Gudmundsson to DN.
According to Gudmundsson gets the elected officials in the KD determine, at their discretion, in which forum they should bring out the party's message.
– There may be contexts where you do not feel comfortable, but we believe that our message is strong enough.
– Yes, there are reasonably limits. But it has not been in the news.
" I don't think it is problematic to go on a conference and lecture on religious minorities.
Gudmundsson insists that Lars Adaktusson current carrying where he attended and what he said and that nothing had been kept secret.
the DN has sought Lars Adaktusson.
